The National Prescribed Fire Act of 2025 is designed to enhance the management and use of controlled burns, known as prescribed fires, on federal lands overseen by the Department of the Interior and the Forest Service. Its primary objectives are to improve land management practices, reduce wildfire risks, and honor Indigenous tribes' cultural practices related to fire use. The Act mandates that the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture increase the use of prescribed fire by at least 10 percent annually for ten years.
