This legislation aims to formally recognize and empower certain Alaska Native communities, specifically Haines, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Tenakee, and Wrangell, which were previously overlooked in the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. It provides these communities the opportunity to establish Urban Corporations, enabling them to receive land and other benefits that were not accessible before. Key provisions include the authorization for the residents of these communities to organize as Urban Corporations, which will receive approximately 23,040 acres of federal land.
