The purpose of this legislation, known as the Fair Legal Access Grants Act, is to improve access to legal resources for individuals seeking extreme risk protection orders (ERPOs). These orders are designed to prevent firearm-related harm by allowing courts to restrict access to firearms for individuals deemed a risk to themselves or others. Key provisions of the Act include the establishment of a grant program managed by the Attorney General. This program will provide funding to state, local, and Tribal governments to offer legal assistance to individuals eligible for ERPOs.
