The purpose of this legislation, known as the Field Integration of Homeland Intelligence Act of 2026, is to change how the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) operates its Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A). Currently, the I&A is centralized in Washington, D.C., which can limit its effectiveness in responding to local needs. This law aims to decentralize the I&A's operations by placing intelligence personnel directly in the regions they serve.
