The Trade Responsibly for Environmental Emissions Act, or the TREE Act, aims to combat deforestation linked to international trade by preventing the importation and sale of goods associated with deforestation. The legislation seeks to protect forests and reduce environmental damage caused by products sourced from deforested areas. Beginning January 1, 2029, the act will ban the import and sale of "deforestation goods," which are defined as items produced or sourced from deforested regions.
