This legislation is designed to provide financial compensation to law enforcement officers who defended the United States Capitol during the events of January 6, 2021. It aims to support those who suffered physical or emotional injuries, or who lost their lives while serving that day. The law establishes a compensation program overseen by a Special Master appointed by the Attorney General. Eligible officers can file claims for compensation covering both economic losses, such as lost wages and medical expenses, and noneconomic losses, including emotional distress.
