The Marine Aquaculture Research for America Act of 2026, known as the MARA Act, is designed to promote and develop offshore aquaculture in the United States. Its primary goals are to establish a regulatory framework for commercial-scale aquaculture projects, support workforce development in the sector, and create Aquaculture Centers of Excellence to enhance industry capabilities. The Act aims to increase domestic seafood production, reduce the U.S. seafood trade deficit, and ensure that new aquaculture developments do not conflict with existing fishing activities.
