The purpose of this legislation is to create a new national historical park in New York and to designate a museum in Missouri as a national historic landmark. Specifically, it aims to honor the history of Holocaust refugees who were sheltered at Fort Ontario during World War II and to recognize the significance of America’s National Churchill Museum. One of the key provisions of the law is the establishment of the Fort Ontario Holocaust Refugee Shelter National Historical Park. This park will preserve and interpret the stories of the 982 refugees who lived at Fort Ontario from 1944 to 1946.
