The Stop Underrides Act 2.0 aims to significantly reduce deaths and serious injuries resulting from underride crashes, where smaller vehicles slide beneath larger trucks during collisions. The legislation focuses on enhancing safety features for commercial vehicles to better protect not only passengers in smaller vehicles but also vulnerable road users like cyclists and pedestrians. To achieve these goals, the Act introduces new safety standards requiring the installation of underride guards on the front, rear, and sides of trailers, semitrailers, and single-unit trucks.
