The Caja del Rio Protection Act is designed to establish two protected areas in New Mexico: the Caja del Rio Special Management Area and the Caja del Rio National Conservation Area. The primary aim is to conserve the cultural, ecological, and historical values of these lands while actively involving local Indigenous tribes in their management. The Act encompasses approximately 67,163 acres for the Special Management Area and about 17,837 acres for the National Conservation Area.
