The purpose of this legislation, known as the Caring for Survivors Act of 2025, is to enhance and broaden the eligibility for dependency and indemnity compensation (DIC) for certain survivors of veterans. This compensation is financial support provided to the families of veterans who have died as a result of their military service. One of the key provisions of the Act is the increase in the amount of DIC for surviving spouses. The compensation will now be set at 55 percent of the monthly compensation rate for veterans, rather than a fixed amount.
